India and China have conducted a fresh round of diplomatic discussions in Beijing, with both sides assessing that recent steps to stabilise the troubled relationship have yielded measurable progress, officials said here on Friday.
Sujit Ghosh, Joint Secretary (East Asia), Ministry of External Affairs, held talks in Beijing from December 11 to 12. He met Vice-Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and later held formal discussions with the Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Officials described the engagement as constructive and forward-looking. “Both sides underscored the strategic guidance provided by the leadership in New Delhi and Beijing, and noted that efforts to rebuild the relationship were increasingly centred on people-focused initiatives,” officials said.
The delegations reviewed the full slate of exchanges and activities planned for 2026, with New Delhi using the opportunity to push for the “early resolution of pending issues related to Chinese export-control restrictions” that have affected Indian entities.
The two sides also touched upon regional and global developments, though only briefly, officials said.
Ghosh also met the Director General for Asian Affairs in China’s Ministry of Commerce to discuss bilateral trade and broader commercial matters.
The meetings mark the latest in a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at improving bilateral ties.
