Must stay united against terror: Rahul in Srinagar
Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday said the Pahalgam attack was to “divide society” and stated it is important that Indians “stand united” to “defeat terrorism once and for all”.
Rahul arrived in Srinagar and met those injured in the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi said he came to Srinagar to get a sense of the situation and also to help.
Stating that the entire people of Jammu and Kashmir have condemned this terrorist attack and they have fully supported the nation at this time, the LoP said he met a person who was injured but he couldn’t meet other injured terror victims because they had gone back.
“My love and affection to everybody who has lost family members. I want everybody to know that the whole nation is standing together at this time,” he said.
He said the Opposition had a meeting with the government on Thursday and the united Opposition condemned “this action and said that we are there to support whatever action the government wants to take”.
He said the idea behind what is happening “is to divide society, is to make brother fight brother”.
“It is very important that every single Indian stands united, stands together so that we can defeat what the terrorists were trying to do,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He also talked about Kashmiris being attacked in other parts of the country after the Pahalgam attack. “It's sad to see that some people are attacking my brothers and sisters from Kashmir in the rest of the country. I think it's very important that all of us stand together, stand united and fight this nasty action that has been taken and defeat terrorism once and for all,” he said.
The Congress leader said he met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who briefed him about what had happened. “I assured both of them that I and our party are going to support them fully,” he said.
Rahul on Friday also met Congress leaders, workers and a delegation of locals in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, L-G Manoj Sinha posted on X that LoP Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders met him at Raj Bhavan. “We discussed various aspects related to the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam,” he said.
