'They're coming': Mexican social media influencer brazenly shot 3 times during TikTok livestream
A young Mexican social media influencer, known for her videos about beauty and makeup, was brazenly shot to death during a TikTok livestream, in an incident that sent shockwaves through a country that faces high levels of gender-based violence.

The death of Valeria Marquez, 23, is being investigated according to protocols for femicide - the killing of women or girls for reasons of gender - the Jalisco state prosecutor said in a statement released on Tuesday evening.
Valeria was talking to her followers and holding a stuffed toy when someone came into the salon pretending to deliver a gift. Just before the shooting, she said, "they're coming," and then turned off the sound. Moments later, gunshots were heard, and she collapsed. The attacker ran away on a motorcycle.
Valeria had nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, where she shared videos about beauty and lifestyle. She had recently said someone came to her salon with an expensive gift while she wasn’t there, and it made her worried. She also mentioned being afraid of her ex-boyfriend, who had threatened her in the past.
Police are treating her death as a femicide, which is when a woman is killed because of her gender. So far, no one has been arrested.
Mexico has one of the highest femicide rates in Latin America. Many people are now asking for justice for Valeria and more protection for women.
