US plane with 10 people disappears from radar near Alaska's Nome

A Bering Air flight reportedly disappeared from radar near Nome, Alaska, on Friday, according to a report by BNO News.

The plane had 10 people on board.

A search operation was underway to locate the missing flight. The flight had taken off from Unalakleet and was en route to Nome, a city about 535 miles northwest of Anchorage.

According to the report, the Bering Air flight took off from Unalakleet at 2:37 p.m. (local time) and was last traced over the Norton Sound area of the Bering Sea at nearly 3:16 p.m.

The report also shared a statement from Alaska State Troopers, confirming that the missing plane was a commercial flight operated by Bering Air.

“On February 6, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., AST was contacted by AKRCC in reference to an overdue aircraft. It was reported that a Bering Air Caravan had gone missing while en route from Unalakleet to Nome, with 9 passengers and 1 pilot on board. SAR crews are working to get to the last known coordinates. Updates to follow,” the statement read.
