61-year-old woman’s body remains inside apartment for almost 2 years, landlord keeps taking rent

Imagine someone being dead for almost 2 years but still paying the rent of the apartment where the person resides. Such incident has been reported from London where a 61-year-old lady’s decomposed corpse was recovered from an apartment. She reportedly lied dead inside for almost 2 years while her rent kept on deducting.

As per a report of Daily Mail, Sheila was found dead on the sofa of her apartment in February 2022. She was last noticed outside her apartment in April 2019 while her neighbours had been perpetually reporting foul smell and piling of letters outside her apartment since October 2019. Even police came twice but somehow felt everything was fine. They hadn’t felt necessity of forcing their way into the house.

She last paid her rent in April 2019. After housing department failed to hear from her, they processed an application to have the rent paid directly from her credit payments. In the course, no one ever tried to contact her. Gas supply to her apartment was also cut off as she did not comply with people who went for routine inspection.

Detectives assumed her passing date in August 2019 by looking at expiry dates on products kept in her fridge.

Her flat was found tidy and no signs of someone’s forced entry could be ascertained.

The postmortem of body couldn’t be conducted as body was too decomposed.
