Xiong married the man through a matrimonial site.

She planned to frame him with a prostitute so that she could accuse him of felony, which would allow her to file for a divorce and avoid returning the bride price.

The bride price is a sum of money the groom pays the wife as a traditional wedding ritual in China.

And if a groom is caught visiting a prostitute or wrong doing, which goes against their wedding , he not only loses the amount but also gets a divorce.

Before suggested the fraudulent plan, the two men had suggested the couple to get a loan.

Xiong was hesitant initially, but eventually gave in. She met Bao from a matchmaking agency. Soon after registered their marriage, Bao paid a bride price of 136,666 yuan (about Rs 13.7 lakh) and even spent 48,000 yuan (about Rs 4.8 lakh) on her jewellery.

After marriage, they returned to Longli county in Guizhou. They went for a dinner where Li, who posed as the bride’s cousin, tried to convince Bao to visit a prostitute. Having become suspicious of his actions and seemingly aware of the plan, Bao instantly called the police.
