Comedian Kunal Kamra has once again stirred controversy after posting a photo on social media wearing a T-shirt that allegedly mocked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The post drew sharp criticism from the BJP, which warned that police action could be taken against those sharing “objectionable” content online.

Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated, “The police would take action against anyone who puts out such objectionable posts,” referring to Kamra’s latest social media post, which featured a dog alongside a reference to the RSS, the BJP’s ideological mentor.

Shiv Sena cabinet minister Sanjay Shirsat, whose party is allied with the BJP, called for a strong response from the RSS. He noted that Kamra had previously targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his shows. “Earlier, he targeted PM Modi and Shinde, and now he has dared to attack the RSS. The BJP needs to respond,” Shirsat said.

Kamra, 36, had courted controversy earlier this year when he mocked Shinde during a comedy show by modifying lyrics of a popular Hindi film song. Following that incident, Shiv Sena members vandalised Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar area, where the show was held, and also damaged the hotel hosting the club.

Responding to the latest controversy, Kamra clarified on social media that the photograph with the RSS reference was not taken at a comedy club. BJP leaders, however, have condemned the post as insulting and provocative.
