After seven years and 42 rejections, a determined man in the UK finally heard the answer he had been waiting for. On his 43rd proposal, Luke Wintrip, 36, received a “yes” from his long-time partner Sarah Wintrip, 38, a moment that marked the end of an extraordinary romantic journey.

The couple, who began dating in 2018, tied the knot on May 17 in a story that has captured widespread attention due to Luke’s unwavering persistence and creative proposal attempts, reports New York Times.

Sarah, a mother of three, first turned down Luke’s marriage proposal just six months into their relationship. At the time, she was still healing from a previous breakup and was cautious about making another serious commitment.

“I didn’t expect it. I loved him, but I didn’t want to say ‘yes’ to something I’d later regret,” Sarah told Kennedy News.

“I wanted to make sure, with kids and everything else going on, that it was right.”

But Luke didn’t give up. Over the next seven years, he continued to propose, 42 more times, often in elaborate and romantic ways. He once rented a castle in Prague, planned candlelit dinners, and even proposed on horseback during a beach vacation in Jamaica.

After Sarah playfully hinted that she might accept the next time, Luke waited a year and chose a particularly meaningful location: the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London — the global center of timekeeping.

“When he proposed, he said, ‘This is the centre of the world, and you are the centre of my world. I want you to marry me,’” Sarah recalled. “That finally won my heart.”

The couple’s unique love story has surprised many and even sparked suggestions that Luke may deserve a Guinness World Record for most marriage proposals to the same person. Sarah laughed, saying, “I’m grateful he persisted for so long.”
