Meet Sunny Deol’s wife Lynda, her royal connection and why she chose to stay in London away from the limelight

While the Deol family—Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Esha Deol—remains one of Bollywood’s most well-known film dynasties, some members have chosen a life away from the spotlight. One such name is Lynda Deol, the wife of actor-politician Sunny Deol.
Lynda is said to have changed her name to Pooja Deol after her marriage to Sunny Deol.
A relationship kept under wraps
Sunny Deol made his Bollywood debut with Betaab in 1983, a blockbuster that instantly made him a national heartthrob. Amid this rising fame, Sunny reportedly married Pooja Deol in a private ceremony in London in 1984.
For the sake of his career, the marriage was kept strictly confidential until a London-based magazine eventually published photographs from their wedding. For years, Sunny denied reports about his relationship and marriage, contributing to speculation about the couple’s distance and Pooja’s long-term stay in London.
Family life away from the public eye
Pooja Deol, well educated and spoken, has always maintained a private life, with the Deol family rarely addressing her in public.
The couple welcomed their first son, Karan Deol, in 1990, followed by their second son, Rajveer Deol. Karan has followed his father into films, while Rajveer is still shaping his career path.
Her background & royal connection
Reports suggest pooja was born on September 21, 1957. She is the daughter of Krishan Dev Mahal, an Indian settled in the UK, and June Sarah Mahal, a British with a Royal connect. This connection added an unexpected layer of intrigue to the otherwise low-profile life Pooja prefers to lead.
Creative contributions
Though she remains away from the limelight, Pooja has occasionally contributed to the film industry. She made an uncredited appearance in Sunny Deol’s 1996 film “Himmat” and later wrote the story for the 2013 comedy “Yamla Pagla Deewana 2”, featuring the Deol trio—Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby.
Past rumours surrounding Sunny Deol
Before and after his marriage, Sunny Deol was often linked to co-stars. He was rumoured to be dating his debut co-star Amrita Singh, who later married Saif Ali Khan in 1991. Sunny was also said to have been close to Dimple Kapadia, with whom he worked in films like Arjun and Narsimha. Dimple had separated from Rajesh Khanna in 1982.
