‘My boyfriend deserves better’: Woman’s post on dating ‘super elite’ guy goes viral
Redditors flooded the comment section with reactions, calling it ‘straight out of a drama series’
A first-year college student has shared her struggle with love and class differences in a relationship. The young woman, who described herself as coming from an “upper-middle-class family,” opened up about her insecurities after discovering that her boyfriend belongs to an “extremely elite” background.
In the viral post titled ‘My boyfriend deserves better,’ the Reddit user detailed how she met her boyfriend – a tall, confident, and popular young man – back in high school.
They met at an event, and though she initially distanced herself to focus on getting into her dream college, fate brought them back together later.
It was after the two began dating that she learned just how elite his background is.
“His dad owns a real estate company, and they have multiple estates in Delhi and Mumbai. He mentioned once that his dad was a businessman, but he never acted rich or snobby,” she wrote.
The revelation has left her feeling out of place.
“His world feels too different from mine,” she added.
Despite describing her boyfriend as loving, the user confessed she has been battling constant thoughts of inferiority.
“No matter how hard I try to shake it off, this thought keeps haunting me: his family would never accept someone like me,” she said.
The user revealed she had even attempted to end the relationship multiple times, but her boyfriend refused to give up.
“He genuinely loves me and I don’t understand why,” she wrote, calling herself “average, boring, and ugly” compared to him.
“He’s like the main character, and I feel like a background extra,” she concluded.
The post quickly went viral among Reddit users.
“It feels like some serial story lol. A rich guy is dating a normal girl. Don’t leave him, and I think you should tell him how you are feeling when you are with him. Maybe it may work,” one commenter wrote.
Another added, “Next season – family drama. Season finale – kids and a happy ending.”
