Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan took to social media on Sunday to call out luxury fashion brand Prada for allegedly copying the design of Kolhapuri chappals.

Kareena shared a picture of her feet wearing the traditional footwear on her Instagram Stories captioned, “Sorry not Prada… but my OG Kolhapuri.”

She kept her face out of the frame to highlight the sandals.

Her post comes amid rising backlash against Prada, which recently showcased a pair of ‘Toe Ring Sandals’ during its Spring/Summer 2026 Menswear Show in Milan on June 22. The sandals drew attention for its strong resemblance to Kolhapuris, but were introduced under Prada’s label with a price tag reportedly close to Rs 1 lakh.

Following this, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Bombay High Court, demanding compensation for Kolhapuri chappal artisans whose designs had been copied. The plea stated that Prada’s presentation lacked acknowledgement of the chappals’ Indian origin.

Responding to the backlash, Prada’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Lorenzo Bertelli, issued a statement recognising the sandals as “inspired by traditional Indian handcrafted footwear with a centuries-old heritage,” and acknowledged the cultural significance of Indian craftsmanship.
