A woman in Eastern China gave birth to a child, four hours, after discovering she was pregnant, according to South China Morning Post.

Apparently, when the woman (surnamed Gong) had gone to enquire about pregnancy she was told she couldn’t carry a child because of a womb syndrome.

Exploring alternatives, alongside her husband, Gong asked about the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) but was (again) rejected by the doctors who deemed her to be unfit to carry a child. The report by the doctors concluded her to be overweight hence, she was urged to lose her weight first.

At the beginning of December, Gong suffered from numbness in her arms.

Concerned, she went for a physical examination at a small clinic, which showed that her blood pressure was extremely high (hypertension), leading her to seek treatment at a hospital.

After reaching the hospital, the doctors questioned Gong’s health and after hearing she didn’t have her period for months, she was arranged for an ultrasound. The examination revealed that Gong was carrying an 8.5-month old baby.

Having deemed her condition critical, a C-section was performed four hours later giving birth to a baby boy weighing two kg.

“There were only four hours from finding out I was pregnant to the birth of my baby,” said a happy Gong.

Although, Gong’s case was rare, Yang Liwei (an obstetrician at the hospital) said some heavier women tend not to notice body changes during pregnancy, if, their weight does not increase significantly.

She further added, “Women not knowing they are pregnant will not take a prenatal examination, which makes it hard to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby,” drawing attention to the repercussions of such a pregnancy.
