'Park' your cycle and ride the Mumbai Metro
The facility, operational since 2022, allows passengers to carry and secure their bicycles during travel, free of cost
In a bid to promote eco-friendly transportation and improve last-mile connectivity, the Mumbai Metro has introduced a cycle parking facility on Lines 2A and 7. A recent viral video showcasing a woman effortlessly parking her bicycle inside a metro coach has sparked a mix of admiration and debate among commuters.
The facility, operational since 2022, allows passengers to carry and secure their bicycles during travel, free of cost. Inside the metro, designated areas are equipped with hooks to safely park bicycles throughout the journey.
The process is simple: just park your cycle, lift the front wheel, and attach it to the hook. Voilà!
This is a fantastic facility in the Mumbai metro. I wish to see more and more Mumbaikars using it. pic.twitter.com/J4wqVWKzN4

While some users praised the initiative for promoting sustainable transport, others questioned its practicality in Mumbai's crowded metro network. "Keeping cycles in the metro sounds nice, but in peak hours, it could be impossible to manage," one user commented. Another added, "The concept is great for awareness, but not realistic for regular commuters in a city with over two crore people."
Despite the mixed reactions, the cycle parking facility is a step towards promoting eco-friendly transportation in Mumbai.
