A 59-year-old patient died after surgeons left a pair of scissors in his stomach during an operation in Venezuela.
Ivan Chavez had gone to the University Hospital of Maracaibo for the surgery for inflamed diverticula.
The operation was hailed a success, but soon after the patient began to experience abdominal pain, reports The Mirror.
As the pain increased, medical staff decided to perform an X-ray.
This was when they saw a pair of scissors in his stomach.
The patient underwent emergency surgery to extract the scissors, which, again, was deemed successful.
He, however, died five days later, with his family accused the surgeons of negligence.
