Prateik Babbar explains why his father Raj Babbar was not invited to his 2nd wedding

Actor Prateik Babbar recently shared why his father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his family were not invited to his wedding with actress Priya Banerjee on February 14.

The wedding was a private ceremony held at the home of Prateik’s late mother, Smita Patil.

In an interview with Zoom, Prateik said the decision was made out of respect for his mother. He explained that Smita Patil and Raj Babbar’s wife, Nadira Babbar, had issues in the past. Because of this, he felt it was not right to invite Raj Babbar and his family to a wedding held in his mother’s home.

“My father’s wife and my mother had some complications in the past, and many things were said in the media back then,” Prateik said. “I just felt it was not ethical to have them at the house that belonged to my mother.”

Prateik added that he was open to having a separate celebration with his father’s side of the family, but things have since become more complicated.

He also said that people made quick judgments about a family rift, but the decision was simply about honoring his mother’s memory.

“It wasn’t about rejecting anyone. It was about respecting my mother and her wishes,” he said. “That house was very special to her. She wanted to raise me there as a single mother.”

Prateik is the son of Raj Babbar and the late Smita Patil. After Smita’s death, Raj Babbar married Nadira Babbar, and they have two children, Arya and Juhi Babbar. Before marrying Priya Banerjee, Prateik was married to Sanya Sagar. They separated in 2023.
