A roller coaster ride at Hyderabad’s Numaish exhibition took a terrifying turn on January 16 when it abruptly malfunctioned, leaving passengers suspended midair.

According to The Siasat Daily, riders were stuck upside down for up to 30 minutes after the amusement ride halted unexpectedly due to battery issues.

Screams for help echoed through the area as on-site technicians worked to resolve the problem.

Surender Reddy, Secretary of the Numaish Exhibition Society, told Deccan Herald that the ride was stopped due to a battery failure during a trial run.

He stated that technicians swiftly replaced the faulty battery and resolved the issue within five minutes, dismissing reports that passengers were suspended for 30 minutes.

However, a viral video of the incident has sparked public outrage, with many questioning the safety measures in place.

Public Reactions

The video, which shows passengers hanging upside down, has drawn widespread criticism on social media. Concerned users voiced their dismay at the lack of proper maintenance and oversight.

“Never try such rides in India. Zero safety measures, zero accountability,” one user wrote. Another user added, “This is not just a battery issue; it’s a mechanical failure. Such incidents are unacceptable,”.

“Authorities need to perform random inspections and certify safety standards before rides are allowed to operate,” said another, adding to the frustration.

Safety Concerns in Focus

The incident has raised serious questions about the safety protocols followed at amusement parks in India. One user on X wrote, “Very dangerous. Putting someone upside down for 25 minutes could cause serious medical conditions. What are the authorities doing?”

Reddy assured that the ride was thoroughly inspected and resumed operation without further glitches. However, skepticism persists among attendees, with many urging stricter safety regulations and penalties for non-compliance.

A Call for Accountability

The mishap has amplified calls for enhanced safety measures and routine inspections at amusement parks. With Numaish being one of Hyderabad’s most popular exhibitions, attendees are demanding greater transparency from organizers to ensure the safety of future visitors.

As the incident continues to spark debate, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing public safety in large-scale events and attractions.
