"Rs 25K for a shoebox?’’, Bengaluru's steep rentals spark debate online
Bengaluru is known as the Silicon Valley of India as it provides employment opportunities to many in the Information Technology (IT) sector. The city has always carried the image of being an expensive place with escalating rents every now and then. But recent trend in rising rental prices have reached to a newer level of absurdity, and the new viral video has left the internet both amused and appalled.
In the video, Abhishek Singh, a content creator, shows the one balcony-room (1BR) flat to the Instagram community which is rented by his friend at a price of Rs 25,000 per month.
It further unfolds showing the tenant standing in the middle of a room where he can touch the two ends of the room with his outstretched arms and feet.
Providing a hilarious turn to the video, he shows how he can stand in the middle of the room and yet touch the two opposite walls with his outstretched hands and feet, evidencing how compact the room really is.
Further, he showed the viewers his balcony, which was not even enough for a single person to stand properly. He also added the benefits of renting such a small sized 1BR flat. He added “Bahaut fayde hai itne chotte room ke- samaan nahi le paaoge to paisa bachega (The benefit of renting such a small room is that you won’t be able to buy things, it would save you money).”

The video went viral soon and grabbed the attention of many. The internet was quick to react and the Instagram reel was flooded with comments very soon. Some were very shocked to see the size of the flat while the others commented that the situation is similar to that in Mumbai.
Some commented, “paradise to a bachelor”, “maid ka kharcha bachega” while the others questioned “bathroom kitchen kahan hai?”.
Not every viewer was convinced by the claims made in the video. Some have questioned the authenticity of the claims made and argue that it might be exaggerated. A user commented, “This is impossible. 25000 rent for this is not possible. Stop faking.”
