Chandigarh, February 28
Another crew member of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has vanished after landing in Canada.
A PIA flight attendant Maryam Raza, with 15 years of service, failed to report for duty on her return flight to Karachi a day after arriving in Toronto from Islamabad on Monday.
According to reports by Dawn, authorities discovered Raza’s PIA uniform along with a note saying, ‘Thank you, PIA’ in her hotel room.
Raza’s disappearance comes after PIA flight attendant Faiza Mukhtar’s vanishing in Canada in January 2024.
This trend has intensified, with at least seven flight attendants disappearing in 2023 alone.
PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan attributes this phenomenon to Canada’s ‘liberal’ asylum policies.
On the other hand, experts believe the uncertain future faced by PIA employees due to low salaries and impending privatisation of the airlines, are prompting the crew members to escape in Canada.
