Patiala, January 14

A 29-year-old resident of Rishi colony allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Hargurpartap Singh.

According to information, the incident came to light on Tuesday morning when one of the family members found him hanging in a room and raised an alarm. The police said the victim was an employee at Mohali court. The police said father of the deceased said his son was in depression. SHO,Urban Estate, Harry Boprai, said they have registered a case on the statement of the deceased’s father.

In another case, a 24-year-old migrant labourer from Odisha allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. The police said that the victim, Swati, tied a knot with Sunil around two-and-a-half years ago and was depressed over not having any child.

The police said the family had alleged that Swati used to remain tense.

A case has been registered at the Anaj Mandi police station in Patiala.
