Celebrations were underway when, around 11:30 pm, his first wife, Reshma Sharma, walked in with police.

Confrontation on stage

Reshma stormed onto the stage during the jaimala ritual and demanded to know why Vinay was marrying again despite being legally married to her.

She showed wedding photographs and their marriage registration certificate as proof. However, Vinay denied knowing her and claimed he had never married before.

Videos from the venue show Reshma displaying the photos and saying, “Mere paas legal proof hai. Ye wahi ladka hai jisse meri shaadi hui thi, aur ye ab doosri shaadi kar raha hai” (I have legal proof. This is the same man who married me and is now marrying again).

In another clip, she confronts Vinay directly: “Tum shaadi kaise kar sakte ho? Humara talaq hua hai? Sabke saamne bolo” (How can you get married? Have we divorced? Say it in front of everyone).

She also accused him of cheating both her and the new bride, and claimed he bought a vehicle using her money.

Bride refuses to continue wedding

The bride’s family tried to pacify the situation, but the confrontation left the bride distressed. She left the mandap and later refused to proceed with the marriage. Eventually, the wedding procession returned without the bride.

Background of the first marriage

Reshma told reporters she had been in a relationship with Vinay for nine years. The couple had a court marriage, followed by a larger traditional wedding. She said their relationship soured later, and legal disputes are currently ongoing. According to her, Vinay served her a legal notice accusing her of fleeing with jewellery, but their divorce has not been finalised.

Reshma said she travelled from Ankleshwar, Gujarat, specifically to stop the second marriage.

Police step in

Police officers present at the scene intervened to prevent the situation from escalating. Both Vinay and Reshma were taken to the police station for questioning. The station in-charge reportedly confirmed that a second marriage without a finalised divorce is legally invalid and said appropriate legal steps would follow after investigation.
