Five killed, three injured as truck hits SUV in UP’s Basti
Five persons were killed while three others sustained injuries in a road accident on National Highway-27 here on Monday, police said.
The accident occurred around 7 am near a Tata Agency in Gotwa under the City police station limits when a truck (RJ 18 GB 5710) heading towards Ayodhya from Basti changed lanes and collided with an SUV (GJ 17 BH 3923) coming from the opposite direction, officials said.
The victims have been identified as Shivraj Singh (30), Shakil (25), Bishwajeet (35), Baharan (32) and Prem (34), the driver of the SUV.
“The injured, who are out of danger, are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for autopsy after informing their family members,” Superintendent of Police, Abhinandan, said.
Traffic on one lane of the highway was disrupted for some time before being restored, police said.
