Shimla, February 24

Himachal Pradesh Health Minister Vipin Parmar would be the next speaker of the Vidhan Sabha. His name was finalised at the meeting of the BJP legislature party presided over by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday.

Thakur said Parmar’s name was finalised following consultation with the high command and he would file the nomination tomorrow.

The post of Speaker was lying vacant since January 17 after Rajiv Bindal resigned and was made state BJP chief. With this speculation over the new Speaker is over and now there will be three vacancies in the Cabinet.

After the election of Kishan Kapoor to Lok Sabha and resignation of Anil Sharma, two posts were vacant in the Cabinet and now there are three.

A three-time MLA Parmar was elected to Vidhan Sabha for the first time in 1998 from Sulah assembly constituency and was re-elected in 2007 and 2017.
