Chandigarh, December 14
Maratha Warriors registered a 4-3 win over Hyderabad Warriors to set up the title clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad on the second day of the Pro Masters Badminton League at the Sector 38 Sports Complex here today.
Kishore Kumar and NN Vinayak beat Amrish Shinde and Manish Rawat of Maratha’s 15-14 7-15 15-11 to provide a head start to Hyderabad Warriors.
However, Abhinand Shetty and Nupura Gadgil downed Abhijeet Naimpally and Parul Rawat 15-10 15-10 in mixed doubles to help Maratha Warriors drew level.
Hyderabad regained the lead through BVSK Lingeswara Raro and KP Naik. The duo beat Arvind Gangani and Bipin Deo 15-7 14-15 15-12. But Maratha Warriors once again made a comeback into the match, with Navdeep Singh and Raghavan P beating Hyderabad’s K Kishore Kumar and Srinath JR 15-14 12-15 15-8.
Ajit B Umrani and Manjusha Sahasrabudhe then drubbed Amit Devdhar and Nancy Tandon 15-3 15-10 in a mixed doubles encounter to make it 3-2 for Hyderabad. However, Maratha’s won the remaining two matches to seal a spot in the final.
Prashant Bahatre and Ram Lakhan edged out Krishnam Raju KVB and RSSL Narayana 15-12 15-5, while Kamalakar Rao and Leroy Disa beat Jitender Reddy and Ravi Kumar 15-9 13-15 15-8.
Sunrisers, meanwhile, had an easy semifinal outing against Wristy Masters. The side won 4-1.
Ajay Kanwar and Markose Bristow rallied to beat Deepak Sexena and Shrikant Bakshi 13-15 15-13 15-9, while Aneesh KA and Sushil Kumar Patet trounced Gyanesh Jeswal and Harjit Singh 15-10 15-8.
JBS Vidyadhar and Lakhwinder Singh packed off Chand Chawat and Jayendra Dhole 15-11 15-8 before Markose Bristow and Rajendra Kumar beat Manish Arora and Rajeev Sharma 10-15 15-8 15-13. — TNS
