Harikrishna wins chess event at Biel Festival

India’s Grandmaster P Harikrishna finished on top in the ACCENTUS Chess960 tournament, part of the 53rd Biel Chess Festival, with 5.5 points from seven rounds. Harikrishna (Elo 2690) remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. Harikrishna had four wins and three draws.

Jon Rahm (in pic) used a sizzling finish on a steamy hot afternoon at the Memorial Tournament to power four shots clear at the top of the leaderboard at Muirfield Village yesterday, setting himself up for a run at the number one world ranking. Chasing a fourth career PGA Tour win, the big-hitting Spaniard carded four straight birdies from the 13th for a 4-under 68. The world No. 2 is 12-under for the tournament and four shots ahead of Americans Tony Finau and Ryan Palmer.

Quartararo wins Spanish MotoGP as Marquez crashes

Petronas Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo won his first ever MotoGP race as he took the chequered flag in an incident-packed race at the Spanish Grand Prix here today. Defending champion Marc Marquez of Honda made two mistakes in the race, with the second leading to a crash at turn four that ended his race with four laps to go. Marquez broke his right arm, his team confirmed. “(Marquez) suffered a … fracture to his right humerus,” Honda said in a statement, adding that he would travel to Barcelona for surgery. Frenchman Quartararo’s victory was also the first for Petronas Yamaha as he finished ahead of Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales in second, while Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso finished third.

Figueiredo claims UFC flyweight title

Deiveson Figueiredo won the vacant UFC flyweight championship today, finishing a dominant performance against Joseph Benavidez with a rear naked choke with 12 seconds left in the first round. Figueiredo (19-1) became just the third 125-pound champion in UFC history by thoroughly dominating his second victory in five months over Benavidez.
