The Health Ministry reported 41,383 new infections on Thursday and active cases registered an increase, reaching 4,09,394.

The government has been warning states against lax easing of restrictions amid low vaccine coverage and slack Covid-appropriate behaviour.

Meanwhile, the INSACOG (Indian Sars-Cov2 Genomic Consortium) today said the Delta variant of concern continued to dominate the new infections across the country and the presence of other variants of concern was declining.

“Delta continues to be the dominant lineage for new cases across all parts of India in recent samples and remains the most rapidly rising lineage globally that is responsible for multiple outbreaks, including across Southeast Asia, which shows the fastest growth in new cases globally,” the INSACOG said.
