New Delhi, July 22
A day after the WHO sounded an alarm over rapid resurgence of the Covid disease worldwide, India witnessed a rise in active cases for the second consecutive day. Daily new cases too rose beyond 40,000 for the second day in a row.
The Health Ministry reported 41,383 new infections on Thursday and active cases registered an increase, reaching 4,09,394.
The government has been warning states against lax easing of restrictions amid low vaccine coverage and slack Covid-appropriate behaviour.
Meanwhile, the INSACOG (Indian Sars-Cov2 Genomic Consortium) today said the Delta variant of concern continued to dominate the new infections across the country and the presence of other variants of concern was declining.
“Delta continues to be the dominant lineage for new cases across all parts of India in recent samples and remains the most rapidly rising lineage globally that is responsible for multiple outbreaks, including across Southeast Asia, which shows the fastest growth in new cases globally,” the INSACOG said.
