The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released new surveillance footage showing the suspected shooter in the fatal attack on conservative activist Charlie Kirk fleeing the scene shortly after the incident.

According to an FBI statement, the video, captured around noon on September 10, shows the suspect climbing onto a rooftop, firing a single shot that struck Kirk in the neck, and then escaping the scene. The footage shows the suspect, dressed in a black long-sleeve shirt, hat, sunglasses and a backpack, running across the roof before dropping over the edge and disappearing into a wooded area near the Utah Valley University campus.

The FBI confirmed that a firearm and ammunition were recovered from the wooded area, along with trace evidence found on the rooftop, including shoe prints, a forearm impression and a palm print.

“This was a targeted attack,” the agency said, urging the public to share any relevant information by contacting 1-800-CALL-FBI or visiting fbi.gov/utahvalleyshooting

The suspect appears to limp briefly in the video before regaining speed and vanishing into the trees.

At a press conference Friday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox addressed the growing spread of misinformation surrounding the assassination.

“There’s a tremendous amount of disinformation circulating online,” he said. “This is a time to put down our phones, be with our families, and avoid feeding the chaos. Our adversaries want us divided.”

Governor Cox specifically cited the involvement of foreign actors, claiming Russian and Chinese bots are contributing to online confusion about the event.

Charlie Kirk, 31, a leading voice among young conservatives and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while addressing a packed auditorium at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Authorities are continuing their search for the suspect, who remains at large.
