Hitler’s watch sells at auction for $1.1 mn
Chesapeake City: A Maryland auction house has sold a wristwatch that once belonged to Adolf Hitler for $1.1 million. Alexander Historical Auctions here had estimated the value between $2 and $4 million, describing the watch as a “World War II relic of historic proportions.” News outlets report that Jewish leaders and others objected to the sale this week, saying it had little to no historical value. Pat Carroll, voice of Ursula, dies at 95
Los Angeles: Pat Carroll, a comedic television mainstay for decades, Emmy-winner for “Caesar’s Hour” and the voice Ursula in “The Little Mermaid”, has died. She was 95. Her daughter Kerry Karsian, a casting agent, said Carroll died at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on Saturday. Carroll won an Emmy for her work on the sketch comedy series “Caesar’s Hour” in 1956, was a regular on “Make Room for Daddy” with Danny Thomas, a guest star on “The DuPont Show with June Allyson” and a variety show regular stopping by “The Danny Kaye Show”, “The Red Skelton Show” and “The Carol Burnett Show”. Myanmar junta extends emergency rule
Myanmar: The head of Myanmar’s junta on Monday blamed instability for stalling efforts to implement a peace plan agreed with other Southeast Asian countries as he extended emergency rule for another six months. The junta first declared a state of emergency after seizing power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in a coup in February last year. Myanmar has been in chaos since then, with conflict spreading after the army crushed mostly peaceful protests in towns and cities. Reuters
