Lankan Prez to visit Maldives to boost ties

Colombo: Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will pay a three-day official visit to the Maldives to enhance cooperation between the two island nations. The visit from July 28-30 will be at the invitation of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu. The two presidents will hold bilateral talks to exchange several MoUs.

British spies to check anti-migrant posts

London: The British government is planning a new intelligence unit pulled from across police forces to monitor and flag anti-migrant posts on social media to pre-empt them flaring into violent protests. Plans for the new unit came as protests outside hotels housing asylum-seekers spread across British towns over the weekend.

Sudan paramilitary forms parallel govt

Cairo: A notorious paramilitary group and its allies in Sudan said they had formed a parallel government in areas under the group’s control, which were located mainly in the western region of Darfur where allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity are being investigated. The move was likely to deepen the crisis in Sudan.
