This horrifying footage of a volcano erupting in Indonesia while the villagers down the hill trying to run for their lives will send shivers down your spine.

The volcano sent ash and smoke flying 40,000 feet in the air.

On Saturday evening, Mount Semeru in Lumajang City, East Java erupted and the videos of the eruption shared on social media showed locals fleeing a huge cloud of smoke.

The Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre has issued a warning after the plume of smoke and ash rose an estimated 40,000 feet in the air, and began raining down on residents below.
