Even as US President Donald Trump has softened his tone on ties with India which was equally reciprocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of his closest aides, Peter Navarro, continues to strike a sharply different note.

Navarro once again launched a profanity-laced attack on India’s purchase of Russian oil, calling it “blood money” and accusing New Delhi of funding Moscow’s war machine.

In a post on X, Navarro dismissed reports suggesting India’s energy trade with Russia predated the Ukraine conflict. “More bullshit from X. Fact: India didn't buy Russian oil in large quantities before Russia invaded Ukraine. It's blood money and people are dying. Stick that up your keister Mother Jones and shame on you,” he wrote, referring to the US-based publication.

His remarks come just two days after Trump recalibrated his own position, insisting he would “always be friends with Modi”.
