Lahore, February 6

A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed woman candidate, contesting against Nawaz Sharif, was indicted in a terrorism case on Tuesday, as authorities in Pakistan’s Punjab province intensified crackdown on jailed ex-PM Imran Khan’s party leaders and supporters ahead of elections.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates are contesting the February 8 polls independently as Election Commission of Pakistan has deprived Khan’s party of its iconic election symbol ‘bat’.

Meanwhile, Imran received unexpected support ahead of poll as the High Commissioner of United Nations Human Rights deplored “all acts of violence against political parties and candidates.”
