Plane carrying 4 passengers crashes into parked aircraft at US airport

A small aircraft crashed into a parked plane while attempting to land at Montana's Kalispell City Airport on Monday afternoon, igniting a fire but causing no serious injuries, according to local officials and federal authorities.

As per AP report, the incident occurred around 2 pm when a Socata TBM 700 turboprop carrying four people came in for a landing and collided with an unoccupied aircraft on the ground, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed.

The crash sparked a fire but was quickly brought under control.

Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio and Fire Chief Jay Hagen said the plane approached the runway from the south and crash-landed at the end before careening into another aircraft. The impact caused the landing aircraft to burst into flames.

All four occupants were able to exit the plane safely.

Two passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene, officials said.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom and seeing thick black smoke rising from the airport, which is located just south of downtown Kalispell, a city of about 30,000 residents in northwest Montana.

FAA records show the aircraft was built in 2011 and is registered to Meter Sky LLC of Pullman, Washington. Representatives for the company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

An investigation is underway.
