Indian security agencies on Sunday sounded a high alert and intensified security at Jewish establishments across the country following the deadly terror attack at Australia’s Bondi Beach that left at least 12 persons dead and 29 injured during Hanukkah celebrations.
According to official sources, intelligence inputs have warned of possible attempts by terror outfits to target Jewish religious and community sites in India during the ongoing Hanukkah festival.
As a precautionary measure, security has been stepped up at synagogues, community centres and other identified locations, particularly in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, besides other major cities.
“Based on specific intelligence inputs, security arrangements have been strengthened at sensitive locations. Local police stations across metros have been alerted and additional manpower has been deployed,” a senior officer said.
