Spain dishes out $2.43 billion in bumper Christmas lottery

barcelona: The lucky holders of ticket number 26590 struck it rich in Spain on Sunday when they won the top prize in the nation’s bumper Christmas lottery. The top-prize winning number, known as El Gordo (The Fat One), worth 4,00,000 euros (USD 436,000) fell out of the enormous metallic shuffling bins in a live televised event. The winners won 20,000 euros for each euro spent on a 20-euro ticket. The incredibly popular lottery dishes out a total of 2.24 billion euros (USD 2.43 billion) in prizes this year, including lots of smaller prizes. AP

Cuba gets first Prime Minister in over 40 years

havana: Cuba’s first Prime Minister in more than four decades — long-serving tourism minister Manuel Marrero — has taken office as the country resurrected a post last held by Fidel Castro. The appointment of Marrero (56) as head of government is part of a process of decentralisation and generational change from the revolutionary old guard that is aimed at extending and protecting Communist Party rule. Trump Jr to embark on tour to engage with Indian-Americans

washington: Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, and television star Kimberly Guilfoyle are planning to embark on a multi-city book tour to engage with the Indian-American community across the country next year, the national organisers said on Sunday. The book “Triggered” that hit the book stores early November is on the charts of the New York Times best-sellers. PTI
