UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has been reaching out to regional leaders in Asia to call for collective and bilateral action to create conditions for the recent military coup in the country to be reversed, his spokesperson has said.

In Myanmar, the police cracked down on demonstrators opposing military takeover, firing warning shots and shooting water cannons to disperse crowds that took to the streets again on Tuesday in defiance of rules making protests illegal. Over 20 protesters were held and several sustained injuries. The protesters want Suu Kyi’s reinstatement. — Agencies
