A youth sustained bullet injuries while his brother escaped narrowly after a group of persons opened fire at them. The victims had gone to take fodder when the incident took place in Butar Sivian village in Mehta here on Saturday.

The police have booked around eight persons, including a woman for murder bid. Those booked were identified as Navjot Singh of Butar Sevian village, his mother Harjinder Kaur, Lovepreet Singh of Butar Khurd village and Ajaypal Singh of Gaggarbhana village besides four unknown persons.

Manjinder Singh, a resident of the same village, informed the police that he, along with his brother Surjit Singh, had gone to take fodder when the accused reached the spot and started indiscriminate firing.
