In an interview , Dr Tapas Pramanik, who was on duty in the Emergency Department on August 9, narrated how he found out about the incident and points out alleged discrepancies in the handling of the case by the hospital authorities. "I was on duty from 8 pm to 8 am on the day. Nothing happened at that time, nobody came to know about anything because there were several patients in the Emergency and we were busy...Around 11:45 am, I received a group message about an incident that occurred at night. It is said that a woman died at night. I called up Madam and others and came to know that a woman died in Chest Department and it is perhaps a rape and murder. The Madam told me that the HoD of Chest Department had come to her after 10 am and told her that a PGT (Post Graduate Trainee) of her department died and to accompany her in confirming death and doing further formalities...She (deceased) was on duty and the order to confirm her death - the SOP - lies with the Emergency Medical Officer. So, as per the SOP, her body should have been brought to the Emergency Ward. #kolkatadoctorcase #kolkata #doctormurder #doctorprotest
