After the Left parties announced their decision to withdraw support to the UPA government, external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee declared this evening that the ruling coalition would seek a vote of confidence as soon as it receives a formal communication from President Pratibha Patil.

confusion in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) regarding stand on
the nuclear deal at the national level and also in Parliament.
On one hand Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said he
and his party would stand by the National Democratic Alliance
(NDA) on the deal.

The Samajwadi Party
Parliamentary Board today declared by consensus its support
for the nuclear deal and for the UPA government in Parliament,
even as signals emerged after the meeting that there was
dissension in the party over the issue and some MPs might
violate the party whip in case a no-confidence motion against
the government was brought in Parliament.
