In a bold move to reshape his ministry and organisational structure of his party, the National Conference, in the run-up to the Assembly elections in 2014, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sought resignations from all ministers, advisers of the National Conference, which is leading the coalition government with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. Besides, he has sought the resignations of chairmen and vice-chairmen of various corporations, according to sources in the government.

State probe finds phones of Cong leaders tapped during Dhumal regime in HP
Shimla, January 12
The interim report of forensic experts into phone-tapping allegations has suggested that telephonic conversations of senior state Congress leaders, BJP dissidents as well as bureaucrats were recorded during the previous regime in violation of the Indian Telegraph Act. The report, prepared by experts from the State Forensic Science Laboratory at Junga, is ready for submission to the state government.

Air Chief warns Pak against LoC violations
New Delhi, January 12
The ongoing cross-border tension took a new turn on Saturday as Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne spoke of “other options” to ensure compliance of peace along the Line of Control (LoC) even as Pakistan did not respond to a call for a flag meet to de-escalate tensions. Upping the ante, Browne termed the ceasefire violations by Pakistan (117 last year) as “unacceptable” and in a way warned the western neighbour that India was being forced to look at “some other options for compliance” if incidents of ceasefire violations continued.

I-T summons BJP chief Gadkari

The Income Tax department has issued summons for appearance to BJP president Nitin Gadkari in connection with its investigation against him and some associated companies for alleged tax evasion. Top sources in the department said Gadkari has been asked for his personal appearance so that he can be confronted with the documents and probe conducted by the I-T in this regard in the last few months.

Law Minister Ashwani KumarLaw Minister Ashwani Kumar today said the national outrage over the recent gang rape in Delhi had hastened the process of changes in the justice delivery system. “Tragic events in the recent past that have shaken national sensitivity and shocked the national conscience have indeed hastened the process of introspection” on this aspect, Kumar said while addressing a conference on “Recent Trends in Judicial Reforms: A Global Perspective” organised by the India International Law Foundation (IILF).
