Chacko says Yashwant’s plea to summon Manmohan political stunt
New Delhi, April 2
The attempt by the BJP to queer the pitch by demanding that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh be summoned to depose before the Joint Parliamentary Committee probing the 2G Spectrum allocation scam, was today dismissed by panel Chairman PC Chacko as a “political stunt”.

Ministry in a fix after NADA refuses heroin test on Vijender
New Delhi, April 2
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports today got into a wait-and-watch mode following the National Anti-Doping Agency’s (NADA) reservation in conducting out-of-competition tests on boxer Vijender Singh for his alleged consumption of heroin, which is considered a “recreation drug”.

Delhi Police today told a court here that hard disks and other electronic data recovered from the office of former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, an accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, show he was pressuring her to return to India from Dubai, one of the reasons that drove her to suicide.

Punjab fails to check rising sand prices
Chandigarh, April 2
The Punjab Government auctioned off sand quarries in five districts to ease the supply of sand and gravel and ensure that the price of this basic construction material came down. However, just 45 days after the new contractors took control over the mining operations, the prices of sand across Punjab have shot up by Rs 1,000 per 100 cubic feet.

Band of brothers: Ambanis join hands for Rs 1,200-cr telecom deal
Mumbai, April 2
Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and RCom managed by his younger brother Anil today announced a Rs 1200-crore deal to share telecom infrastructure and promised deeper co-operation in the coming days. In filings to exchanges, both companies said they have signed an agreement under which RIL's Reliance Jio Infocomm will share RCom's nationwide inter-city fibre optic network infrastructure spread over 1,20,000 km. Reliance Jio Infocomm is launching its 4G services later this year.
