Land Bill logjam: UPA calls parties’ meet

Eager to move on with reforms in the controversial land acquisition policy and put in place a legislative framework, the UPA government has called a meeting of political parties to iron out the differences amid stiff opposition from the Left and others.

Building collapse: M’rashtra caught napping, toll rises to 57
Thane, April 5
At least 57 persons have died since Thursday after a seven-storey under-construction, unauthorised building collapsed in the city on the outskirts of Mumbai. The incident led to the suspension of a deputy municipal commissioner and a senior police inspector.

Visa on arrival for Pak senior citizens
New Delhi, April 5
Indicating a small yet significant shift, India has started visa on arrival facility for senior citizens of Pakistan. The facility, originally supposed to start on January 15 this year as part of the new liberalised visa regime between the two neighbours, was put on hold after two Indian soldiers were beheaded along the Line of Control (LoC) on January 6.

The US today made it clear that there was "no change" in its stand of not granting visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, but said he was welcome to apply and the case would be reviewed on merit.
