VARANASI: The BJP today mounted an all-out attack on the Election Commission over the refusal of permission for holding a rally to Narendra Modi who questioned its neutrality, while protests were held here and in Delhi demanding removal of the Returning Officer.

Himachal surpassed previous records on Wednesday, as 66 per cent voters made their way to polling booths, the highest turnout in 16 Lok Sabha elections held since Independence. The highest turnout recorded in the state was in 1998 when 65.31 per cent of the electorate cast their vote.

Over 60 million vote in penultimate round
New Delhi, May 7
High turnout was registered in the penultimate phase of the Lok Sabha elections today. Over 60 million people voted in 64 constituencies to seal the fate of 1,737 candidates, including Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, his cousin Varun, Ram Vilas Paswan and Rabri Devi. One person was killed when the police opened fire outside a polling booth in Bihar�s Sitamarhi district to prevent booth capturing.
