The investigation into the Red Fort blast that killed 12 people has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials said on Tuesday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is chairing another high-level security review meeting to assess the situation.
Sources said Delhi Police registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosives Act, as preliminary findings link the incident to the Faridabad terror module.
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, the father of the main suspect, Umar Mohammad, has been detained for questioning, while his mother has been called for a DNA test to confirm the suspect’s identity.
Umar Mohammad, a doctor from Pulwama, is believed to have been driving the Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening. Security remains on high alert across Delhi, with intensified checking at all borders, metro stations, and public places.

Police on Tuesday took the mother of the man who was suspected to be driving the car that exploded near the Red Fort for a DNA test in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said here. "We have taken the mother of the suspect to collect DNA samples in order to match with the parts found at the scene of the blast," an official said. Dr Umar Nabi was allegedly driving the Hyundai i20 car that was used in the blast near the parking area of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday, killing at least 12 people. He hails from Koil village in Pulwama, they said. Two brothers of the suspect accompanied their mother to the hospital. The officials said three persons -- who were linked to sale and purchase of the car involved in the blast -- have been detained for questioning. PTI

The Red Fort Metro Station has been closed for commuters, while traffic restrictions have also been imposed in the area, officials said on Tuesday. In a post on X, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said, "Service Update. Lal Qila Metro Station is closed due to security reasons. All other stations are functional as normal." The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory regarding restrictions and diversions have been put in place in both the carriageways and service roads -- Netaji Subhash Marg from Chatta Rail Cut to Subhash Marg Cut.
