New Delhi, June 22

The Union government today notified the amendments in the Master Plan of Delhi (MPD) 2021 that would give relief to traders from sealing being done by the monitoring committee of the Supreme Court.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs notified the amendment in the MPD-2021 after going through the recommendations made by the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) board of enquiry and hearing committee.

The board of enquiry and hearing committee submitted its recommendations on June 19 for changes in proposed amendments in development control norms of shop-cum-residential plots in MPD-2021 and proposed norms for redevelopment of godown clusters existing in non-conforming areas – as a modification to Master Plan-2021.

The announcement was made following a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor, Anil Baijal who is chairman of the DDA.

Shop-cum-residence complexes would be allowed to continue with the activities permissible in the local shopping centre with conditions that floor area ratio (FAR) of such plot would be as prescribed for respective size of the residential plotted development. Payment of use conversion charges from “residential” to “commercial” would be applicable as prescribed with the approval of government.

As far as norms for redevelopment of godown clusters existing in non-conforming areas and wholesale trade the DDA’s board of enquiry and hearing recommended that godowns and wholesale trade would be allowed on the roads that have minimum width of 30 metres.

State BJP president Manoj Tiwari said this step of the government would provide relief to the traders by amending various paras of the MPD-2021 after fresh inquiry and hearing.

He said with this amendment the Central government and the DDA have taken initiative to fulfill its promises made to the traders of Delhi.
