New Delhi, October 1
Three monuments in Delhi will be illuminated with colours of the national flag for seven days to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The monuments — Gol Gumbad, Bijri Khan and Tomb of Paik — will be illuminated from October 2 with tricolour to mark the occasion, said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia while informing about the celebrations. The monuments will be lighted for a week from 7 pm to 11 pm, a government statement said.
“Delhi’s architectural heritage must be preserved, however that will only happen if we build a relationship with this heritage. These monuments are not merely selfie points. They carry lessons from history. Through community engagement and cultural interventions we want to highlight the amazing layers of history Delhi has to offer and keep alive it's composite culture. This is our collective heritage,” said Sisodia.
Sisodia further informed that the archaeology department of the Delhi government is restoring a number of heritage monuments in the city and the government will also organise a free Sufi concert on October 7 and 8 for the public, inviting them to visit the monument at Gol Gumbad and Bijri Khan’s Tomb.
