New Delhi, February 8
A total number of 425 candidates have filed nominations on the last day for the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections to be held on February 26.
The break-up of the candidates is as follows: the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) 46, Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) Sarna group 46, Panthak Seva Dal 42, Aam Akali Dal 12, Ranjit Singh group 12 and others are independent candidates.
There are 3,80,000 voters who will elect the candidates for the DSGMC.
The scrutiny of the nominations will be done tomorrow. Till February 11, names can be withdrawn. Election, result and all process will be completed by March 2.
Maximum candidates of Badal and Sarna groups filed the nominations today. They reached returning officer offices with slogans and flashing signs of victory in huge numbers to show their following in the ward area.
Manjit Singh GK before filing the nomination went to Gurdwara Pahari Wali in Greater Kailash to pay obeisance. He filed the nominations in the presence of a large number of his supporters in Greater Kailash. This is the same ward from where his father the late Santokh Singh used to contest the election.
Manjit Singh, who is heading the SAD Badal’s Delhi unit, is the party face for the election in Delhi.
Head of the SAD Delhi, Paramjit Singh Sarna has filed nomination from Punjabi Bagh ward where he was defeated last time by Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Again in this election, both these candidates are facing each other. In this constituency, there will be a tough fight as there is anti-incumbency factor against Sirsa.
Another top face in the Sarna group is Bhajan Singh Walia who has filed nominations from Pitampura.
Situation in Jungpura ward is very interesting as two brothers – former Congress MLA, Tarvinder Singh Marwah and his brother Harmohan Singh are pitted against each other. Marwah is a sitting member. Both are independent candidates. Kuldip Singh Bhogal is contesting as SAD Badal candidate.
