New Delhi, June 27
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta said today that there was no slum redevelopment policy to develop JJ clusters even though Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in the post budget conference, had said his government belonged to the ‘aam aadmi’ and it would fulfil their dreams.
Gupta said AAP had come to power by promising pucca houses to slum dwellers. “It is ironic that a government that came to power by making such promises to poor people is now sitting over the allotment of 10,000 flats to poor people residing in 46 JJ clusters, notwithstanding the fact they have already deposited the requisite amount of Rs 72,000 only to the Delhi Slum Improvement Board (DUSIB).
Addressing a press conference, Gupta said the JJ dwellers had raised the requisite amount for allotment by raising loan mostly from private moneylenders at high rates of interest in a hope to have their own houses.
Demanding the Chief Minister to allot the promised flats to the JJ dwellers, Gupta said if the Kejriwal government fail ed to do so, the opposition and the aggrieved JJ dwellers would launch a massive campaign.
The Delhi Urban Slum Improvement Board had carried out a survey of 46 JJ clusters in the city in the first phase. On the basis of the documents, the board found that 10,000 JJ dwellers were eligible for the allotment of pucca houses.
A meeting of the board was held on January 4, 2011. All eligible JJ dwellers were allotted a multi-storied building. They were required to pay Rs 72,000 to become eligible for the allotment of dwelling unit.
“Till date, not a single allotee has been given the flat possession. The poor JJ dwellers, who had deposited Rs 72,000 with the government by taking loans, are feeling cheated,” said Gupta.
He said the Delhi government was thinking of coming out with a new policy on slum dwellers. In the new policy, it is proposed to either make fresh allotment or in situ allotment.
He questioned the wisdom of the Delhi Government in coming out with a new policy when the claims of thousands of allottees had not been settled.
