New Delhi, March 8
In a major move by the AAP government ahead of the elections, the Delhi cabinet this evening decided to revise auto-rickshaw fares to Rs 25 for a distance of first 1.5 km instead of 2 km.
But, the auto-rickshaw unions have termed the hike inadequate and asked the government to rein in unregulated app-based taxi services.
On Twitter, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said the last revision was in 2013.
“Per km fare will be Rs 9.50/km III. Waiting charges of 75 per minute applicable for every minute when vehicle is stationary or stuck in traffic or moving very slow,” Gahlot said apart from the revision in base fare.
Auto-rickshaw Sangh general secretary said more than any hike in fare a subsidy on CNG fuel will be helpful to auto-rickshaw operators.
