New Delhi, February 6
The Cabinet today approved Rs 139.16 crore for construction of a new sports complex in Najafgarh, southwest Delhi, where presently only one stadium owned by the Directorate of Education (DoE) is available for use of students from eight government schools.
The sports complex will come up at Kair Village in Najafgarh, where the DoE felt that it does not have any sports stadium or sports complex in rural areas of Najafgarh and its nearby villages.
The DoE found that school students, especially from the rural areas there, go for sports practices either in the small stadium or in their respective school playgrounds. The area has several villages that include Mitraon, Surehra, Rawta, Chhawla, Issapur, Kair, Paprawat, Khaira, Dhansa, etc.
The site for the sports complex was finalised following a survey undertaken by the DoE. After the survey, the Directorate found a piece of suitable land in Kair along an arterial road branching from the main Najafgarh-Dhansa Road connecting village Kair to Najafgarh.
The sports complex will have uninterrupted power supply system and, other facilities like synthetic athletic track, jogging track, tennis court, basket ball court, swimming pool and sports lighting. The sanction came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The Directorate envisaged a state-of-the-art sports complex having various facilities under one roof to accommodate various sports and related activities, said the government in a statement.
"As the said land is next to one of the main arterial roads from the core centre of Najafgarh, it becomes accessible for private motor vehicles, public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. Also, located right next to the bus depot increases its accessibility.
